DEI RDB 2006
Try our latest revolutionary new product.
Bit-Level backups for large files. Read all about it here.

Version 9.00.006
Released March 13 2006

BitBackup substantially reduces the amount of time it takes to back up files, and saves storage space on the RDB (Remote Data Backup) Sever. It backs up only the parts of files that have changed since the previous backup. For example, if you change a single 5-character word in a 2 megabyte word processing document, BitBackup will back up only the 5-character word, plus a small amount of data needed during restore.

The first BitBackup backs up the whole file. Thereafter, each backup contains only the parts of the file that have changed since the most recent full backup. All BitBackups are cumulative - each can fully restore a file up to the point the backup was made.

BitBackup is particularly useful in backing up huge files like databases that may change only slightly every day. Our exclusive technology is far more reliable than others because of the cumulative nature of BitBackups.

System State Backup

DEI (Data Ensure, Inc.) RDB (Remote Data Backup) 2006 backs up the Windows System State. This backs up the Windows registry, user settings, and Windows system files.

Active Directory

DEI RDB 2006 backs up the Windows Active Directory database and transaction log on Windows servers that have it installed. If Active Directory is not installed, the option does not display.

Local Data Store

When BitBackups are used, DEI RDB 2006 maintains copies of the most recent backups on the local computer or network, available for immediate (and very fast) restore without the need to download them from the Server. The location of the local Data Store is configurable, so workstations in a network can share a common network drive for their Data Store.

The local Data Store is automatically selected when restores are requested from the most recent backups. Restores from the local Data Store proceed at the local network speed and do not require a connection to the RDB Server. Thus, they are much faster than restores that access the RDB Server, and represent a redundant failsafe method of restoring files in case the RDB Server cannot be reached.

New Customization Feature: Change Icons in EXE Files

The program files installed as part of the DEI RDB Client software contain icons which Windows uses in various places, such as Windows Explorer, Add/Remove Programs, and other management interfaces. The program file names end in the file extension, "EXE." You can replace the icons inside these EXE files using the "Change EXE Icons" menu choice in the Customize Client Installer.

Restore Module Updated

The Restore module in the DEI RDB Client can now restore more than two billion files in a single session.

Client Catalog File Sent using BitBackup

The DEI RDB Client's catalog file (backup.mdb) is transferred using BitBackup. This significantly reduces the amount of time required to do backups for clients with large backup sets. During the first backup the complete catalog file is sent to the server. Subsequent backups send only the parts of the catalog file that have changed. DEI RDB 2006 sends another full file to the server when the patch threshold size reaches 100% of the original size OR if the original full backup is deleted from the server.

Updated Components

Many of the components in the Client and the Server have been updated. This further increases speed and efficiency.

All Installers Updated

All RDB software has been updated to support InstallShield's most current installation technology.
